Indian shooters win gold, silver and bronze at Commonwealth Shooting Championship
Indian pistol shooters were at their sharpest best at the 10m air pistol event on Wednesday as they picked up gold, silver and bronze medals in Commonwealth Shooting Championship in Singapore. While Shahzar Rizvi won gold, Omkar Singh, and Jitu Rai won silver and bronze medals respectively.
The Indian contingent had a very productive second day at the Commonwealth Shooting Championship as they won five medals, including two gold, two silvers and one bronze medal.
In the 10m air pistol event, Shahzar Rizvi, Omkar Singh, and Jitu Rai won gold, silver, and bronze medals respectively, while in the 10m women's air rifle event, Pooja Ghatkar clinched a gold with her countrymate Anjum Moudgil winning the silver medal. The bronze in this event went to Martina Lindsay Veloso of Singapore.
India started off the campaign with a bang when earlier Heena Sidhu claimed the 10m air pistol gold, while Deepak Kumar fetched a silver in the 10m air rifle event. Sidhu, who was one of India’s bigger hopes in the tournament, shot a combined score of 626.2 (386+240.8) to claim the top honours.
It was also Sidhu's second successive international gold after she, along with Jitu Rai, claimed the top position in the 10m air pistol mixed team event earlier this month in in Delhi during the ISSF World Cup Finals.
