Shooter Sanjeev Rajput joins the party with a silver

It’s raining medals for the Indian shooters on the third day of the Asian games as Sanjeev Rajput won a silver in 50m Rifle 3 Positions Men. 37-year-old Rajput finished second to China’s Hui Zicheng with a total score of 452.7 in the final on Tuesday to take India's medal tally to 8.

Sanjeev fell short against his Chinese counterpart Zicheng by 0.6 points in the total score while Matsumoto Takayuki of Japan finished with a bronze in the event with a total score of 441.4.

Sanjeev started off well in the event with 151.2 points in kneeling position where the Chinese managed 150.7. In the prone position the Indian managed to score 51.4, 51.7, and 52.8 and after the end of first two positions, and by then, Sanjeev was ahead by six points.

The Haryana shooter failed to capitalise in the end in standing position which forced him to settle with a silver in the event. The veteran Indian shooter had clinched gold in 50m Rifle 3 Position the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games earlier this year.

With eight medals so far, India is at the seventh position in the medal’s tally. India has bagged three gold, three silver and two bronze medals in the competition so far. Sanjeev’s silver is the third medal of the day from shooting.
