SAI has come forward to help shooter Priya Singh manage her lack of funds and improve her scores. Priya was one of the six candidates shortlisted to represent India in the 50m rifle prone at the ISSF Junior World Cup and was in danger of missing the event because of lack of funds.

SAI’s Director General, Neelam Kapur has come up with the offer of helping the 19 year old shooter.

“Priya will be provided all facilities to help her improve her scores and make it to the Indian team”, Neelam has mentioned in one of her tweets.

Priya was provided equipment by the NCC of which she was part till 2017. She won 17 medals during the tenure of 2014-17 which included a gold at the All India National Shooting Championship in 2016 and 2017.

Priya is not able to receive the assistance from the government due to the fact that it will be provided only to the top three shortlisted player, where Priya stands at the fourth position. National Rifle Association of India’s secretary, Rajiv Bhatia has mentioned that they are supporting Priya and are helping her to get the gun permit, but even they are incapable of providing any financial help.

“As far as financial assistance is concerned our hands are tied. The government takes care of all expenses, including ammunition, for the top three participants. The remaining ones have to take care of their travel and stay”, Rajiv Bhatia mentioned to TOI.

Priya will be requiring 4.5 lakhs to fund her travel and stay in Germany and her 50 year old father, Brijpal Singh cannot help her with the same. He has approached CM Yogi Adityanath to PM Narendra Modi, but without any consequence. In such a situation, SAI help seems to be a boon in disguise for Priya.
