2019 ISSF World Cup, which is to be held in Delhi’s Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Ranges, will offer participants 16 quota places across four events for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. After India’s outrageous success at the World Cup held in Mexico recently, the shooting contingent is increasingly hopeful.

The qualification stages for the Olympic Games in Tokyo starts from this year’s ISSF World Championship in Korea, which is scheduled to be held in August-September. The Games will have a total of 360 quota places that will be distributed across 15 Olympic shooting events.

The tournament in New Delhi will be handing out two quotas each from four events that include both individual men and women's sections - 10 air rifle, 10m air pistol, rifle 3 position and rapid fire pistol.

It will, however, not give quotas for mixed team events that are only marked for the World Championships. The 52nd World Championships is scheduled to be held from August 31 to September 15, where there will be given 48 individual Olympic quotas and 12 mixed team Olympic quotas.

Following their disastrous campaign at Rio in 2016, where India’s shooting contingent returned empty-handed, the team has done brilliantly since then. The most recent example would be their marvellous showing in an ISSF World Cup held in Guadalajara, Mexico, where the shooters managed to clinch nine medals that included four gold and top the medals tally for the event.
