Kumar Surendra Singh Shooting Championship | Aishwarya Pratap Singh Tomar bags two golds
Aishwarya Pratap Singh Tomar has clinched a couple of gold medals at the Kumar Surendra Singh Shooting Championship at the Dr. Karni Singh Range in New Delhi. Tomar won both the men's and junior rifle 50-metre 3-position gold medals on Saturday to emerge as the star performer of the day.
Aishwarya Pratap Singh Tomar had a great outing on Saturday at the ongoing Kumar Surendra Singh Shooting Championship as he managed to bag a gold medal each in the senior and junior category. In the rifle 50-metre 3-position events in both junior and the senior men’s categories, he shot above his weight to end at the top. Tomar, with 453.5 in the men’s final, defeated Kailash Chand of Army by 0.7 point. Ashish Gautam managed to bag the bronze medal in the same category while Olympian and World Cup gold medallist Sanjeev Rajput finished fourth in spite of topping the qualifying round.
On the other hand, in the junior final, Tomar ended up with total points of 454.1. He managed to beat Harshit Binjwa by four points to claim the gold medal.
‘’It was good in prone and standing positions, but the kneeling score was not good. I did not expect to win both the gold medals. But, I had won all the three rifle gold medals for juniors in the national championship,” Tomar was quoted as saying by Sportstar.
Vijayveer Sidhu got the better of Adarsh Singh, after both shot an identical score of 586, to bag the gold medal in the junior men’s sports pistol category. Udayveer finished at the third place in the same event.
Mehuli Ghosh dominated the proceedings in the women’s air rifle qualification event with a total of 631.3 points. Aayushi Gupta, Shakti Chandra, Shreya Agrawal, Ayonika Paul, Shriyanka Sadangi, Aditi Shula and Meenakshi also reached the final round of the event.
