Archers Deepika Kumari and Bombayla Devi will have a chance to end India’s medal-less run at the Rio Games on Thursday when they take the field in the individual event. India’s seven-member badminton contingent will also start their Olympics campaign today along with the male golfers.

Although Jitu Rai and the women’s hockey team faltered, India had a pleasant day at Rio yesterday with archers Deepika Kumari and Bombayla Devi flying the Indian flag high by storming into the Round of 16 in the individual event. The onus to bring India a medal will fall once again the shoulders of the archers today as they enter the business end of the event.

Deepika Kumari will face Chinese Taipei’s Tan Ya-ting in the pre-quarterfinals, while Bombayla Devi will take on Mexico’s Alejandra Valencia. The quarter-finals, semi-finals, and medal matches of the event will also take place today. Follow our live blog to catch all the updates about Deepika Kumari and Bombayla Devi’s matches.

Golfers Anirban Lahiri and SSP Chawrasia will also take the field today as the sport makes a comeback into the Olympics after a gap of 112 years. With many stars missing from the event, both Lahiri and Chawrasia will have a chance to earn a surprise medal for India. The opening round of the event will start at 4pm IST.

Saina Nehwal and co. will also start their campaign in the Olympics today as they look to revive India’s fortunes at the Games. World No.5 Saina Nehwal will be the biggest hope for India in the discipline and will take on host nation’s Lohaynny Vicente in the opening match of Group G. PV Sindhu will face Laura Sárosi of Hungary in the opening match of Group M, while in men’s singles, Kidambi Srikanth will start his campaign with a match against Lino Muñoz of Mexico. The men’s doubles pair of Manu Attri/B Sumeeth Reddy and women’s doubles duo of Jwala Gutta/Ashwini Ponnappa will also be in action on Day 6.

After defeating Argentina 2-1, Indian men’s hockey team will look to secure a quarter-final place on Thursday when they face Netherlands in their penultimate group game. However, the women’s team’s prospects of entering the last-8 look all but over after a 1-6 defeat against Australia yesterday. They will face the United States of America in the fourth game today.

Boxer Shiva Thapa will also be in action today as he takes on Cuba’s Robeisy Ramirez, the 2012 Olympics gold medallist in the flyweight category.

After rain played spoilsport yesterday, Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna will hope to start their campaign in the mixed doubles today when they face the Australian pair of Samantha Stosur and John Peers.
