India golfer Shubhankar Sharma stunned the crowd with phenomenal final round display as he came back from a four-stroke deficit to claim his second European Tour title with a two-shot win at the Maybank Championship. The youngster shot 10 birdies in the final round to finish at 21-under par.

Shubhankar claimed his second European Tour title with a bogey-free performance at the Maybank Championships in Malaysia. This win helped him to jump to the top of the Race to Dubai Rankings, in which the top 60 players can take part in the 2018 World Tour Championship in Dubai, scheduled to take place in November.

After winning the championship Reuters quoted Sharma saying, “I played pretty solid and it wasn’t easy because it was windy,”

The 21-year-old, who claimed his maiden title at the Joburg Open in December as he shot five birdies in his last 9 holes to leapfrog Campillo and ultimately hung onto his lead to win the European Tour title.

“I kept pushing the whole day. I knew I had to make a lot of birdies to catch the leaders. I made a lot of birdies on the front nine and just continued on the back,” said Sharma.

Sharma has won 2 European Tour titles and 2 Asian Tour titles along with 1 Sunshine Tour title and 6 other titles in his 4-year professional career.

“The last two months have changed my life. I’ve been a member of the Asian Tour for a while and I will continue to be a member of the Asian Tour. I’ve always dreamt of winning and now I’m a two-time winner on the Asian Tour and European Tour.”
