IND vs NZ | Kiwi pacers fold India for 46 before Conway makes merry on historic Day 2

New Zealand made up for lost time at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Thursday by bowling out India for a record low 46 courtesy of Matt Henry's fifer and Will O'Rourke's four scalps. The host bowlers couldn't repeat such antics however as Devon Conway's 91 took the Kiwis' lead to 134 runs at Stumps.

Opting to bowl first despite a heavy covering of cloud, India were made to pay for their decision early on as the New Zealand quicks ruled the roost with significant swing in the air as well as movement off the deck under floodlights. Rohit Sharma survived once after a close LBW call went his way but Tim Southee did not have to bother with an appeal as an inducker beat the charging Indian skipper all hands up to shatter the stumps in the seventh over. 14 dots followed as the pressure continued to pile on and culminated in a Will O'Rourke delivery springing off the deck to catch Virat Kohli's glove before heading into Glenn Phillips' safe mitts. Sarfaraz Khan followed suit four deliveries later to a diving Devon Conway stunner at mid-off to leave India reeling at 10/3 when rain interrupted proceedings and forced players off the field. Unlike the previous day, the hiatus only lasted half an hour when Rishabh Pant resumed proceedings with a statement-making boundary off O'Rourke. However, the maidens kept on coming as Pant and Jaiswal grew increasingly agitated and the latter end up spurning his wicket by flaying a cut straight to point. KL Rahul became the Kiwis' fifth victim when he tickled a O'Rourke delivery down leg and another duck for Ravindra Jadeja meant India headed into the break at a horrid 34/6.

Ravichandran Ashwin edging one to slip on the first ball upon resumption further set the tone for the day as Pant fell victim to a Henry jaffa and the pacer together with O'Rourke thus helped fold out the innings for a paltry 46, the lowest ever total in the subcontinent by any team.

By the time the Black Caps walked out to bat, the sun had made its way into the clear which made the pitch ease up for batting while limiting swing movement. Devon Conway and Tom Latham capitalized with aplomb, aided by some missed chances in  a sloppy fielding display for the hosts, the former smashing a slew of boundaries en route to his half century. The opener took a particular liking for Ashwin, adding another six to his two boundaries and maximum against the off-spinner to bring up the fifty run mark in just 54 balls. However, the 67-run opening stand ended the very next ball when Kuldeep Yadav's drift outdid Latham and trapped the keeper batter plumb in front. Nevertheless, the Kiwi express continued to maraud on through Conway and Will Young either side of Tea as the duo added 75 runs for the second wicket. Ultimately, a Jadeja delivery bounced sharply to take the top edge off Young's attempted sweep and made for an easy catch to Rohit after the skipper had let go two difficult ones in short succession. Ashwin added one final breakthrough to India's tally shortly after as he outwitted Conway by yorking him in the midst of a reverse sweep to sound him the death rattle nine short of a ton. Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell navigated the rest of the day without much ado, their 26-run unbeaten partnership ensuring the lead reads a healthy 134 runs at the close of play.
