Saurav Ghosal rises to career best 10th in latest PSA rankings

Top Indian squash ace Saurav Ghosal reached his career new high of 10th as he entered the top 10 in the World rankings as per the latest PSA release. After women stars Joshna Chinappa and Dipika Pallikal have previously reached in the top 10, Ghosal became the first India male ever to do so.

Chennai: Ace squash player Saurav Ghosal's journey of excellence touched a new milestone when he rose into the top 10 in the World rankings as per the latest PSA release. The April rankings which came out on Monday put the Indian on his career best high of 10. He is the only Asian in the top 10.

Ghosal is the first Indian male ever to reach this high in world rankings. The two woman stars Joshna Chinappa and Dipika Pallikal had made it to this level earlier in their career. Ghosal's earlier best was 11 which he had touched in the October of 2018 but thereafter had dropped a rung.

The latest achievement stems from his stellar performance lately, reaching the quartefinals of the PSA world championship for the first time in his career and the more recent one where he made it to the last eight in the PSA gold event, Grasshopper Cup in Switzerland.

Delighted to note the happy development the National Coach Cyrus Poncha said, “full credit to Ghosal for the perseverance showed. This is excellent news for Indian squash in general.”

Meanwhile Joshna has also improved from rank 16 to 15 now. Dipika , who has been out of the circuit for a while however has dropped to 56. As for the others, in the men's in the main, Ramit Tandon is on 50, Vikram Malhotra 61 and Mahesh Mangaonkar 67 while in the women's section the only one within the top 100 is Sunayna Kuruvilla 85.
