Narsingh Yadav: If I'm the culprit, hang me
After his accreditation was cancelled and he was forced out of the Olympic village, Narsingh Yadav on Friday, vowed to fight against the injustice done to him. Narsingh Yadav, who was banned for four years after the verdict from the CAS, said that he would go to the Prime Minister’s office if needed
Narsingh Yadav was left infuriated after he was evicted from the Olympics village, following the CAS verdict which banned him for four years for a positive drug test. Narsingh’s accreditation was immediately cancelled, and he was asked to vacate his lodgings in the Olympic village. Before leaving for India, he spoke emotionally to the PTI, calling the entire controversy a blot on India. “My name has been tarnished, not just me, this ban is a blot on India.”
The wrestler also vowed that he would definitely seek justice in the higher courts in order to challenge the ban, “Let me be hanged, I will take this to higher courts and will leave no stone unturned,” he told.
Narsingh had flown to Rio in order to take part in the 74 kg men’s freestyle wrestling after the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) had accepted his plea that his food was spiked and that he was a victim of sabotage. But, WADA filed an application before the Court of Arbitration for Sports, ad-hoc Division, to challenge the decision of NADA, and Narsingh was subsequently slapped with a four year ban by the CAS. However, the 27-year old said that he would go to the PM’s office in order to get justice.
“I will appeal to the Prime Minister to investigate this matter thoroughly. The truth must come out, even if we need CBI for that. If I'm the culprit, hang me, I'm ready for it. Do a NARCO test on me and also the people who are involved,” he told.
He also said that there are unnamed individuals who have conspired to stop him from participating in Rio.The wrestler expressed his anguish that all the training he had taken to win a medal at Rio has now been wasted.
“It's clear from the series of episodes who all are involved. There's a big lobby involved in this and the names should be out. It's a matter of country's future in sport. I have become a victim of all this without any fault of mine. All my four years' hardships to win an Olympic medal have gone in vain,” he said.
He expressed his concern that the sport faces a bleak future, if proper justice is not done.
“If I don't get the justice the future for sport will be bleak. Not many will be encouraged to join sport and win medal for India. We ourselves are to be blamed,” he concluded.
