Kohli replaces Root at No.2 position in Test rankings

Virat Kohli, who has been in red-hot form of late, has replaced England's star batsman Joe Root at the No.2 position in the ICC Test batsmen rankings. Ravichandran Ashwin, who has also led India's series win against England, has consolidated his position at the top in the bowlers’ category.

Replying to England's first-innings total of 400, India scored a Himalayan 631 runs with Virat Kohli striking yet another double century in his third consecutive series. The Man of the Match's partnership with Jayant Yadav saw India put the match out of reach of England who had claimed to be in control of the Test after their score. In the process, Kohli also crossed 2000 runs in the calendar year and became the first Indian skipper to score three double centuries during that time.

Kohli's exploits earned him 53 points and have seen him replace Joe Root at the second position of the ICC Test batsmen rankings. The Indian skipper, who is currently ranked second in One-Day Internationals and first in Twenty20 Internationals rankings, is just 11 points behind Australian skipper Steven Smith. 

On the bowler's side, Ravichandran Ashwin has been on a form of his own taking wickets like picking apples in a garden.The offie grabbed 12 wickets against England in the MumbaiTest and has consolidated his top position and will finish as the top-ranked bowler for the second consecutive year. 

Ashwin, who has contributed with the bat too, is also at the top in the all-rounder rankings, securing a total of 483 points and now has a healthy lead over Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan, who is on 405 points with England’s Ben Stokes third with 341 points.

Opener Murali Vijay and all-rounder Jayant Yadav also made significant progress in the batting chart s. Vijay has moved up five places to 24th position after his knock of 136 while Yadav’s 104 runs at the number nine position has pushed him up 31 slots to the 56th rank.
