You could soon file an RTI to the BCCI ; SC pushes Board to implement Lodha report in full
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) received a big blow on Thursday with the Supreme Court asking the board to implement all the recommendations put forward by the Justice Lodha committee. The Court found no reason to disagree with any recommendations and asked the board to reply before the next hearing on March 3.
The Supreme Court bench comprising of Chief Justice TS Thakur and Justice Ibrahim Kalifullah described the report by Justice RM Lodha Committee on the overhaul of the BCCI as âstraightforward, rational and understandableâ and advised the board to âfallin lineâ and accept the recommendations.
âYour members have been wielding power for long... There will be no second innings here,â Chief Justice of India Tirath Singh Thakur said, reported the Hindu.
âThese recommendations deserve respect. They have come from the most respected members of the legal community. They have done extensive deliberations with all stakeholders,â the Judge added.
BCCI has been dilly-dallying with them made by the Lodha committe for the past one month and asked for more time to discuss them among its members.
âWithout saying, we respect the recommendations. It is not that we fail to see the writing on the wall, but these are sweeping changes... we need time to respond,â senior advocate Shekhar Naphade representing the BCCI, submitted.
Among the recommendations made by the Lodha committee, the proposal for the BCCI to come under RTI and âone vote for one associationâ are seen as sweeping changes by the board. The Apex Court came hard on the board and asked them to do give their response before the next hearing on March 3.
"If you have any difficulty in implementing it, we will have the Lodha Committee implement it for you," said Justice Thakur to the BCCI counsel, according to ESPNCricinfo.
