Owing to changes in the ICC rules, BCCI chief and ICC President Shashank Manohar has tendered his resignation from the former post today. The 59-year-old took over the post in October last year after the sudden demise of Jagmohan Dalmiya.

BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur will now have to call a special General Body Meeting within the next two weeks to elect their new president, with IPL Chairman Rajeev Shukla and Anurag Thakur reported to be the frontrunners to take up the role.

Manohar's resignation comes just in time for the ICC's annual board meeting, which is scheduled to take place next month. With the ICC set to change its law, where its president cannot hold a role in his/her home cricket board, Manohar had to step down in order to file his nomination for the ICC's chief post—the deadline of which is on May 23.
