BWF World Tour Finals | PV Sindhu beats Tai Tzu Ying, Sameer Verma outplays Tommy Sugiarto

PV SIndhu defeated Tai Tzu Ying of Taiwan in a 61-minute encounter which was decided in three sets at the ongoing BWF World Tour Finals. In the men’s singles category, Sameer Verma got the better of opponent Tommy Sugiarto of Indonesia in his second one after losing his first match.

PV Sindhu defeated Tai Tzu Ying of Taiwan 14-21, 21-16, 21-18, taking the match after being one game down. Earlier in the day, in the men’s singles category Sameer Verma managed to win against his Indonesian opponent Tommy Sugiarto in straight games 21-16, 21-7.  

Playing against the top seed Ying, Saina lost her first game quickly as the Taiwanese player led the first game right from the fifth point. Sindhu quickly refocused herself and after momentarily losing the lead in the second game at 1-2, she never lost control of the second game. Trailing 10-12, Ying did try to make a comeback in the game but Sindhu was up to the task and did not let Ying take the lead and pocketed the game 21-16.

The last game of the match was the most interesting one as at the mid-game break, Ying was leading 11-6 by a margin of five points. After the that, a different Sindhu took to the court, she first equalized the score with Ying at 13 apiece thereafter scored five consecutive points to take lead with 18-13. Ying did try to make a comeback at that stage but the lead was too much for her and she yielded the game at 18-21.

On the men’s court too it was a good day for India as Sameer Verma, after losing to Kento Momota of Japan tamely in the first game, managed to win his second match of the tournament against Tommy Sugiarto today. In the first game of the match, Sugiarto gave some fight to the Indian shuttler. Sugiarto trailed the Indian most of the first game, though at one point the Indonesian trailed just by one point at 16-17, Verma did not let go the lead and took the first game 21-17. The second game was easily picked by the Indian who bagged it with 21-7 points.
