Sourabh Verma clinches Slovenia International Badminton title
Sourabh Verma defeated Japan’s Minoru Koga in straight games by a scoreline of 21-17, 21-12 in the men’s singles final of the Slovenia International badminton tournament. However, the Indian women’s duo of Sanjana Santosh and Pooja Dhandu lost the finals to Jenny Moore and Victoria Williams.
Indian national champion Sourabh Verma bagged an international title in Slovenia on Sunday. Verma defeated Minoru Koga of Japan in straight games by a scoreline of 21-17, 21-12 in the men’s singles final in Medvode today. Verma, who was the top-seeded Indian in the tournament, had to save two match points in the semi-finals against Denmark’s Karan Rajan Rajarajan as he held his nerve in the earlier round to make book his ticket for the final match.
However, it was a heartbreak for the Indian women’s doubles pair of Sanjana Santosh and Pooja Dhandu as they had to settle for a silver medal by losing by a margin of 21-14, 22-20 in the final match against England’s Jenny Moore and Victoria Williams.
Earlier last month, Sourabh Verma and fast-rising teen Lakshya Sen lost in the second round of the Denmark International tournament. The 26-year old Indian shuttler, previously, had also completed a hat-trick of titles at the Senior Badminton Nationals.
