Amandeep Khare’s 102 off 98 balls propelled India U-19s to their second victory in as many matches as they beat Sri Lanka U-19s in the tri-nation U-19s tournament in Sri Lanka on Friday. Indian colts mounted a score of 284/7 batting first before restricting their rivals to 250/5 to register a four-run victory by D/L method.

Brief Scores:India U-19 284/7 in 50 overs (Amandeep Khare 102(98), Washington Sundar 77(115), Asitha Fernando 3/54) defeated Sri Lanka U-19 (Avishka Fernando 75(89), Charith Asalanka 74(86), Rahul Batham 2/32) by 4 runs (D/L method)

After defeating England U-19s by 86 runs in their opening match, India continued their habit of changing the starting eleven by making six changes including resting last match’s hero Sarfraz Khan. After winning the toss, Indian captain Ricky Bhui elected to bat first and the openers delivered for the captain by forming a 77-run partnership for the first wicket. The fall of Ishan Kishan for 33 brought Amandeep Khare to the crease to partner Washington Sundar.

The duo combined to produce a 107-run partnership for the second wicket as India reached 184 in 38 overs. With Washington Sundar falling for a well-made 77, Amandeep Khare and Virat Singh took the responsibility of taking India to a huge score. Khare brought up his century, which constituted nine fours and a solitary six before being run-out for 102. A couple more run-outs followed the centurions' dismissal as India finished at 284 for 7 in the 50 overs.

With rain once again paying a visit to the R Premadasa stadium in Colombo, the match was reduced to 47 overs with the hosts needing 255 runs to register a victory. The Sri Lankans started on the front foot scoring 60 in 11 overs. Rahul Batham provided the opening break through by removing Salindu Ushan for 18. Avishka Fernando and Charith Asalanka joined hands after the first wicket to produce a 94-run partnership as Sri Lanka crossed 150 in the 30th over. Avishka Fernando departed soon after falling prey to a throw from substitute fielder Anmolpreet Singh for 75.

With the Sri Lankans 101 runs away from a victory with 17 overs remaining in the match, a loss for the Indian side looked likely. However, some tight bowling from the bowlers kept a leash on the Sri Lankans going into the last ten overs. Batham once again brought cheers to the Indian camp as he removed Charith Asalanka for 74. Zeeshan Ansari’s economic spell of 32/1 in seven overs and Batham’s two-wicket haul halted Sri Lanka’s run as they finished four runs away from a victory.

With two wins from two games, India sit comfortably at the top of the table with two more matches remaining in the group stages. India will next take on England U-19s in their third match on December 15 at the R Premadasa stadium in Colombo.
