Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag has insisted that Anil Kumble was his favorite captain, as he received more support from him, than he did from Sourav Ganguly or Mahendra Singh Dhoni during his career.

The 37-year-old, who recently retired from all forms of International cricket, has played under the leadership of Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid and Mahendra Singh Dhoni, but when asked about his favorite captain he said, "Kumble is my favourite captain. No one backed me like he did. Not even Sourav Ganguly or Dhoni".

Sehwag revived his career, after a lean patch for both him and the national team, back in 2008 under the captaincy of Kumble in the Test matches. The former opener, scored 1353 runs in the 14 test matches he played under Kumble, including a memorable triple hundred against South Africa in Chennai.

Sehwag, who took a cumulative total of 136 wickets in tests and ODIs, also added that Sourav Ganguly trusted him as a bowler, but he was primarily expected to score runs. "Ganguly believed in me as an off-spinner. He let me bowl 10 overs but my primary job was to score runs," Sehwag added.
