Weeks after Virender Sehwag's inclusion, Zaheer Khan has been made an honorary member of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) for life. Zaheer, who retired from international cricket last year, is the 24th Indian to join the elite club.

The MCC, in a statement, said, "MCC has elected Zaheer Khan as an Honorary Life Member of the Club."

Zaheer's inclusion comes weeks after the inclusion of Virender Sehwag, who became an Honorary Life Member last month. Other Indians in the club also includes the likes of Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar.

Zaheer retired last year from international cricket last October after an illustrious career for India where he played the role of the pace spearhead to perfection. Although injuries plagued him in later years, he played 92 Test matches for India taking 311 wickets at an average of 32.94 runs.

The 37-year-old, who played for India over 15 years in a career that spanned from 2000 to 2014, played his last match for India in 2014 against New Zealand. In that Test match, Zaheer took a five-wicket in his final Test innings.

Zaheer, widely regarded as one of the most intelligent cricketers to play for India, also took 282 wickets in 200 ODIs at an average of 29.34.

Zaheer also had a long stint in the IPL playing across clubs that included RCB, Delhi Daredevils, and Mumbai Indians. The pacer is currently the captain of the Delhi Daredevils team but has been widely touted to the Indian national team's bowling coach under Anil Kumble.

John Stephenson, MCC Head of Cricket, said: "Zaheer Khan was a fantastic servant to cricket in India and an integral part of their very successful side for many years. For this reason the Club is very pleased to award him with Honorary Life Membership. "He was always great to watch when he played at Lord's and we look forward to having him back here as an MCC Member."
