Chepauk Super Gillies clinched a seven-wicket win over Ruby Kanchi Warriors in what was a rain-truncated game of the India Cements TN Premier League on Saturday in Chennai. The win was made possible thanks to the good work of Gillies’ bowlers.

Brief scores: Ruby Kanchi Warriors 97 in 13 overs (Nilesh Subramanian 25, 18b, 4x4, M Shah Rukh Khan 26, 15b, 3x6; Sai Kishore 2/10, D Kumaran 4/24, Anthony Dhas 2/14) lost to Chepauk Super Gillies 103 for 3 in 11.5 overs (Vasanth Saravanan 50, 34b, 4x4, 2x6 ; R Jesuraj 2/13) by 7 wickets

The match was truncated to thirteen overs a side due to rain which resulted in a loss of 100 minutes of play. Each side was allotted four overs of power-play while three bowlers were allowed to bowl a maximum of three overs each.Warriors made two changes to the side with S Siddharth and R Suthesh replacing AC Prathiban and J Kaushik. Gillies on the other hand went with one change as Gowjith Subash replaced Ashwath Mukunthan.

A splendid performance with the ball saw Chepauk bowl out Kanchi for 97.A four-wicket haul by D Kumaran (4 for 24) as well as two wickets apiece by Sai Kishore and Anthony Dhas set up the game.Bharath Shankar (12) started the Warriors’ innings in style by smashing R Satish (0 for 11) for a first ball six over deep mid-wicket and followed it up with a boundary.Sai Kishore’s (2 for 10) third over swung the game in Gillies’ favour as he bowled a double-wicket maiden. He also dismissed Bharath Shankar (12) and captain B Indrajith (0).

Nilesh (25) and Shah Rukh (26) helped Warriors reach 97. Kumaran bowled an outstanding spell as Warriors were unable to handle his length and pace. He also was instrumental in dismissing Nilesh and Shah Rukh. Warriors struggled to build partnerships as wickets kept tumbling on a regular basis. The innings consisted of five sixes and seven fours in all.

Warriors got off to an ideal start as they picked up two crucial wickets in the power-play. Gopinath (2) fell to a brilliant catch at first-slip by Indrajith off M Prabhu (1 for 26). Even Shankar took a tremendous catch under pressure to get rid of Thalaivan Sargunam (5). Vasanth Saravanan (50*) and Gowjith Subhash (23) anchored the innings perfectly with a fifty-nine run partnership of thirty three deliveries. Gillies never let the run-rate go out of reach with R Jesuraj (2 for 13) being the only Warriors bowler who made an impact. R Satish (17) sealed the game in style as he slammed a six and sparked celebrations in the Gillies’ camp.
