Cricket Advisory Committee member Sourav Ganguly has said that the interviews for India’s next coach will be held on July 10 in Mumbai. The post has been vacant ever since Anil Kumble’s resignation on June 20, but it has been learnt that Ravi Shastri has emerged as a front-runner for the role.

The mystery over who will be team India’s next coach is one step closer to being solved after the date for the interviews were revealed by Sourav Ganguly. "The interview will be held on July 10 in Mumbai," the former Indian skipper said, reported PTI.

After Anil Kumble’s resignation from the position on June 20 owing to his "untenable" relationship with Indian skipper Virat Kohli, the BCCI had extended the deadline for the applications for the post to July 9, so as to have a wider range of applicants to choose from. While Lalchand Rajput, Virender Sehwag, Richard Pybus, Dodda Ganesh, and Ravi Shastri have applied for the post, it has been learnt that Sehwag and Shastri are the favourites to land the job.

Shastri was India’s team Director until the end of the World Twenty20 in 2016, where India lost to West Indies in the semifinal. During his tenure that started during the middle of the England tour, Shastri had played a significant role in anchoring Test series wins against Sri Lanka (away) and South Africa (home), and India’s journey to the 2015 World T20 semifinal. But the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), impressed by the attention to detail of Anil Kumble’s presentation, chose him for the Indian coach post, which had irked Shastri then.
