Pakistan suffered a humiliating 124-run defeat to India in the first match of their campaign at the ongoing Champions Trophy. Former Pakistan skipper Zaheer Abbas urged the Pakistan cricket team to take revenge against India for the shameful loss by defeating them in Sunday’s final.

Facing each other for the first time in an ODI match since ICC World Cup, Pakistan lost to India by a big margin of 124 runs in their opening encounter of the Champions Trophy. Now, once again, they are set to play against India in the final of the tournament. Legendary player Zaheer Abbas believes that the current Pakistan team has the a good chance to avenge their loss. "Now is the time for Pakistan to beat India in the same way they defeated us in the opening match of the ICC Champions Trophy," Zaheer was quoted as saying by the Dawn on Friday.

After the first humiliating defeat against arch-rivals, Pakistan registered back to back victories over South Africa, Sri Lanka, and England to enter the final. More than the victories, it's the way the Pakistan team has won the matches under the captaincy of Sarfraz Ahmed, that gives hope to fans, as well as Zaheer Abbas, who feels that they can do better in finals.

"The way Pakistan team played against England gives us an impression that they are now in a position to do something special for the country in the all-important match. Now is the time for Pakistan to beat India in the same way they defeated us in the opening match of the ICC Champions Trophy," he said.

"Pakistan outclassed England in all departments. They bowled well, their fielding was extra-ordinary while they also batted very well to pull off a comfortable victory against hot favourites England," 69-year-old added.

He was particularly impressed with the performances of the younger Pakistani players like Fakhar Zaman, Rumman Raees and Faheem Ashraf - all of whom made their debuts in the Champions Trophy. "The new faces have given Pakistan a new life with their energetic efforts. I would like to praise all new players including Fakhar Zaman, Hasan Ali, Rumman Raees, Faheem Ashraf for playing a positive role in rebuilding Pakistan team. Future of Pakistan cricket will be brighter if they press ahead with their efforts with the same zeal," he said.

However, India has the upper hand against Pakistan in ICC events, with the overall record being 13-2 in favour of India. On Sunday, Pakistan will try their best to improve this record and avenge their previous losses.
