India vs New Zealand | Mithali Raj retained as India’s ODI skipper for New Zealand tour
Despite her controversy with Ramesh Powar, Mithali Raj has been retained as the ODI skipper for the Indian women’s team’s tour of New Zealand starts on January 24. While Harmanpreet Kaur has been chosen as the T20 captain, Veda Krishnamurthy has been dropped from both the squads.
After the drama in the aftermath of India’s semi-final loss to England last month, it was supposed to be a change in the leadership group, but after the termination of coach Ramesh Powar’s contract, there has been no change in the leadership group. While Mithali Raj has been given the go-ahead to lead the team in ODIs, Harmanpreet Kaur will captain the side in the T20Is.
Veda Krishnamurthy has been dropped from both the squads and has been replaced by Mona Meshram in the ODI squad. Young Delhi opener Priya Puniya got her maiden India call-up as she was named in the T20I squad in place of Krishnamurthy, who dwindling form was a talking point in the Women’s World T20.
After missing out on the World T20 berth, Shikha Pandey has made a comeback into the T20I squad and will play her first international fixture after the Asia Cup earlier this year. She is in very good form bagging 5 wickets in 4 matches, apart from scoring a 57-ball 71 against Punjab.
