The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Thursday confirmed that there was no evidence of corruption in the Third Ashes Test match played last December. 'The Sun' had earlier reported that underground bookmakers from India had offered to sell information regarding the same to news reporters.

En route to their historic Ashes win last December, the Australian cricket team beat England by 41 runs in the third Test at the WACA ground in Perth. The Australians completely dominated the series as they thrashed England by a scoreline of 4-0. The third Test match between the two teams came under the ICC radar after reports of ‘spot-fixing’ came up recently.

But ICC General Manager, Anti-Corruption, Alex Marshall dismissed all these claims and stated that the ICC anti-corruption unit found no fault in the way the match unfolded last December.

"I am satisfied that there is no evidence to suggest any match has been corrupted by the individuals in the investigation, Nor is there any indication that any international players, administrators or coaches have been in contact with the alleged fixers," said Marshall off sources at PTI.

The ICC had earlier claimed that they were ‘seriously’ looking into the allegations and added that they would take ‘extremely strict’ action if anything seemed suspicious.

"We have carried out an extensive global investigation with anti-corruption colleagues from Member countries based on the allegations in The Sun and the material they shared with us," added Alex Marshall.

The Sun had earlier said two bookmakers, including an Indian "Mr Big", had offered to sell it details of rigged periods of play in the Test in Perth which could be bet on to win huge sums. One of them claimed to have worked on the scam with former and current internationals including a World Cup-winning all-rounder. They said they had coordinated with a fixer in Australian cricket known as "The Silent Man".
