India vs England | Tom Curran ruled out of T20I and ODI series due to side strain
23-year old England pacer Tom Curran, who played for Kolkata Knight Riders in this year’s IPL, has been ruled out of the T20I and ODI series against India due to a left side strain. Curran will be replaced by his brother Sam Curran in the England squad for the much awaited limited-overs series.
The English cricket team put in an impressive display against a low-flying Australian squad as they cruised to a record-breaking 5-0 ODI series win against the visitors for the first time in their history. They will hope to build on that commanding victory as they prepare to host Virat Kohli & Co. in the coming months.
However, the English squad have been dealt a huge blow with an injury to young speedster Tom Curran, ruling him out of the upcoming limited-overs series. Curran suffered a left side strain which has ruled him out for the remainder of the white-ball season. The Surrey bowling all-rounder was expected to be fit to play after Tuesday's opening match at Old Trafford but the strain proved to be too strenuous for him to carry on. Curran has only played four games for English County side - Surrey this season which all came in the Royal London One-Day Cup.
Tom, the son of former Zimbabwe international Kevin Curran, was the replacement for Mitchell Starc in the Kolkata Knight Riders squad in the 2018 edition of the IPL and put in some decent performances for Dinesh Karthik’s team.
The South African born pacer will be replaced by brother Sam Curran in both - the Surrey squad as well as the England cricket team. Sam Curran received his first senior call-up for England in January 2018 for the 2017-18 Trans-Tasman Tri-Series against Australia and New Zealand but did not play any matches for the English side. He did, however, make his ODI debut for England against Australia on June 24.
