Kolkata Knight Riders aren’t expecting a smooth run against Chennai Super Kings on Thursday in their backyard as weather reports suggest rain interruption at the Eden Gardens. While Chennai have the chance of extending their lead at the top, Kolkata would be looking to leapfrog Kings XI Punjab.

Dinesh Karthik hasn’t had the best of starts in the IPL as KKR’s new captain. The Kolkata skipper has led the side to four wins in eight games and his comparisons with former skipper Gautam Gambhir are solely at bay because the former has done a more pathetic job with Delhi Daredevils.

However, thankfully for Kolkata, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Rajasthan Royals, Mumbai Indians, and Delhi Daredevils have also struggled, giving Karthik time and opportunity to target a top-four place. After defeating RCB in their backyard last game, Kolkata would be brimming with confidence ahead of the crunch match. In their last face-off, Kolkata had to miss out on the win by the skin of their teeth, thanks to some terrible bowling by Vinay Kumar in the last over.

While Karthik might point towards luck for that game, this time is no different. Met department has predicted rain in the evening in Kolkata on Thursday, which could seriously affect the game. As per weather2.com, Eden is likely to see a heavy amount of rain. Though Eden’s good drainage system comes as a relief in such situations, Karthik wouldn’t be too delighted with it after rain cost KKR the game against Kings XI Punjab.
