Windies leggie Hayden Walsh hoped that after his impressive performance in the T20 series he will be able to stand out as he shared that people often mistake legendary pacer Courtney Walsh to be his father. Walsh hailed bowling to southpaws in nets helped him trick Shivam Dube with a vicious googly.
The inclusion of leg spinner Hayden Walsh might very well be an elixir to the West Indies T20 side who seemed to have lost their footing in the format they are the strongest in. The Windies have won only two of the 11 T20Is they have played this year and the main reason behind it is the lack of a wicket-taking bowler in the middle phase of the game.
Having played only 4 matches for the Caribbean side until now Walsh has scalped 4 wickets, all of them being crucial wickets in the middle phase. After his impactful performance against India in the second T20 of the series, Walsh is confident of carving his separate identity as he shared that people mistake him for the son of the legendary Windies pacer Courtney Walsh.
"I was playing in the Canada T20 league and someone called me Courtney Walsh (laughs). So yeah...People my father is not Courtney Walsh. But I guess now they will now find out who I am and who is my father," India Today quoted Walsh.
Walsh scalped two wickets in the game which West Indies eventually won by 8 wickets including that of Shivam Dube, who seemed to be hitting the long ball quite easily, and Shreyas Iyer. Walsh shared that tricking Dube with the google was easy as he is used to bowling to southpaws like Evin Lewis and Shimron Hetmeyer in the nets.
"I was bowling a lot to Evin (Lewis) and Nicholas (Pooran) in the nets. I was a bit confident coming in to bowl to him (Dube). Yeah, it has been like a roller-coaster ride for me. As you can see, I have been working hard trying to find my way to the top into international cricket. Just to be here and perform in a game is just. I am over the moon," he added.Â
He was visibly elated as it seems like he is finally finding his feet in international cricket after the impressive spell. The young leggie seemed to believe that the toss is quite an important factor in the shortest format while opined that there wasn’t much dew in Thiruvanthapuram.
"Yeah, I think the toss as you saw in Hyderabad, it was very important because of the dew factor. I don't think dew was much of a factor tonight. But knowing that we were going to bowl first and we have such a strong bowling team. Once we do well, we would be able to restrict them to a good total,” Walsh concluded.
