Reports suggest that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to replace Sarfaraz Ahmed with 29-year-old Shan Masood as Test captain, before the start of the ICC World Test Championship. According to Geo News, the committee will take up the issue when they meet next Friday in Lahore.

Having borne the responsibility of captaining the side in all three formats since 2017, Sarfaraz is now looking to be relieved by the PCB. His performances in the role, in the longest format of the game, has also been lacklustre.

Sarfaraz has led Pakistan in 13 Tests, out of which the side has won only four matches and lost eight.

Kuwait-born Shan Masood is touted to be the man to replace Sarfaraz. However, the report by Geo News further stated that not all the members of the board are eager over Masood’s appointment. It appears as if the decision has been made in principle by PCB’s think tank.

The decision has come just a few days after Sarfaraz admitted his desires to continue in the role.

“It’s not that I’m saying I refuse to resign. All I’m saying is the decision rests with the PCB, the same way as the decision to appoint me captain was taken by them. I’m sure they’ll take the decision that’s best for Pakistan,” he said, reported Hindustan Times.

Pakistan are currently placed in the 7th position in Test rankings.
