Sourav Ganguly to complete his TV duties despite conflict of interest
Sourav Ganguly is all set to complete his TV commitments at the ongoing World Cup despite the case regarding his roles in the IPL and the Cricket Advisory Committee. BCCI ethics officer DK Jain had noted earlier this week that more than 15 former Indian cricketers were holding multiple positions.
Justice DK Jain had ruled that Ganguly and VVS Laxman can’t be holding twin jobs at once, which was in direct violation of the recommendations made by the Supreme Court appointed Lodha panel. The recommendations include a ‘One Person One Post’ rule. Based on this, the former Supreme Court Justice had asked the former stars to choose between their roles. Ganguly is the mentor for the Delhi Capitals in the IPL, while Laxman plays the same role for Sunrisers Hyderabad and both of them are members of the Cricket Advisory Committee.
However, new developments on the case suggest that Ganguly has an exclusive contract with the ICC and not Star Sports. As such, the former Indian captain is set to complete his assignments at the World Cup.
“Sourav is doing commentary for the world feed. He has no contractual obligations with the Star Sports,” a BCCI official was quoted as saying by PTI.
The official added that this was a part-time, one-off assignment for Ganguly, who will not cover the Afghanistan game because he had to fly back to Kolkata due to personal reasons.
“But Sourav is going to be back in the UK on June 25 and do the remaining India games,” the BCCI official added.
Regarding those who are contracted with Star Sports, another BCCI official was quoted as saying, “Most of the current or former players, who are being perceived to be conflicted need not worry as things will change after the World Cup. It will depend on what kind of assignments they take.”
