IPL 2019 | I was playing backyard cricket as a kid when IPL started, says Sam Curran
Kings XI Punjab's Sam Curran has stated that he was playing backyard cricket when the first edition of the IPL started back in 2008 and is very happy to play it now. He has also heaped praise on Ravichandran Ashwin’s leadership, saying that the latter can lead the side to an IPL title this year.
Sam Curran suddenly became a hot property in the Indian Premier League after his exploits against India in the Test series last year. Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kings XI Punjab bid for him and dramatically that reached a point Rs. 7.20 crore when RCB had to back out, with Punjab being the winner of the battle. For Curran, it was a dream of sorts for being a part of the tournament which started when he was an eight-year-old.
“I am really excited to be part of the IPL. I have been watching it for a long time. It is an amazing tournament. I am really looking forward to playing some good cricket and sharing the dressing room with the best players in the world.
“I was playing cricket with my father in the backyard of my house when IPL started (laughs). I was learning the game at that point

“With Gayle and Rahul at the top, we have a great batting attack. Gayle is unstoppable when on fire. We have a decent bowling attack too. The middle order also looks strong. It is a well-balanced side. Ashwin is a good leader and the chances for KXIP looks bright. We want to take (it) one game at a time.”
