ICC writes to BCCI for not sending players to mixed media zone after the game
ICC Media Committee sent a letter to the Indian team management and the BCCI about the need to follow tournament protocols. The hosting parties are complaining that the Indian players are not being sent to the mixed media zone, which is a new practice that has been recently introduced by the ICC.
As per the Members Participation Agreement (MPA) signed by all the boards, the players should be sent for the media interaction after a match irrespective of the result. The agreement also has a certain clause all the 15 players in the squad should be sent for the interaction, albeit for a brief period of time.
However, not a single player from the Indian team was sent to the zone after their first warm-up game against New Zealand at The Oval on May 25 and that forced the ICC and the World Cup organisers to have written to the Indian team management and the BCCI about the need to follow tournament protocols.
ICC is ready to see even if only three-four players are sent and if India don't follow the protocol at all, other teams would take a cue and start skipping the ‘walk through’ the media barricade where journalists are generally allowed a couple of questions for every player.
As per a report in Mumbai Mirror, BCCI CEO Rahul Johri suggested the question to be directed to the Indian team management people in the UK as they would be in a better position to explain the point, while those involved here say discussions are going on with the organisers.
