Whatever MS Dhoni does will be the right thing, believes Shane Watson
With all the rumours and speculations surrounding former Indian skipper MS Dhoni's retirement since the conclusion of World Cup 2019, former Aussie all-rounder Shane Watson opines that Dhoni is still playing well and the call must be left to him. Watson has also praised Virat Kohli's leadership.
Former Australian all-rounder was all praises about his Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni as he said that it's totally up to the wicketkeeper when he should retire.
"He has still got the skill. But it is down to him to decide. He still moves incredibly well, runs hard between the wickets and has beautiful hands. Whatever he does, it will be the right thing because he knows what lies ahead," TOI quoted Watson saying so.
The all-rounder was impressed by Virat Kohli's leadership skills as he believes that Kohli has done a great job with the Indian team. Kohli has already surpassed Dhoni in the list of most Test wins.
"He (Kohli) has done a great job with the Indian team. He has been playing so well in all formats. Whatever he is doing right now is certainly working and the team is responding to his leadership," he added.
When asked if the current Indian team could dominate the world cricket the way Australia did under Steve Waugh and Ricky Ponting, Watson considered tough but not impossible. He went on to appreciate the depth Indian team has.
"It is going to be hard to replicate..but there is no reason why India can't do it. There is no doubt that India has got the depth in all facets... batting, bowling and fielding. The depth in Indian cricket is incredibly strong. It has got the luxury of having someone like a Rohit Sharma opening the batting and scoring lots of runs. The depth in Indian cricket is incredible... I am sure this team can win away from home as well."
