Whatever Virat Kohli will require for betterment of Indian cricket, he will get, says Sourav Ganguly
Sourav Ganguly believes in a strong working relationship with Virat Kohli and stated that the skipper will get everything he wants for the betterment of Indian cricket. Ganguly has added that Kohli is the most important man in Indian cricket and has led the team brilliantly in the last few years.
When Sourav Ganguly took charge of the Indian cricket team in the aftermath of the match-fixing scandal, in which India seemed to be the epicentre of the corruption, he had the difficult job of bringing the fans back to the sport. One of Ganguly's strongest suits was the way he handled all the perceptions and ensured a strong and cordial relationship with then BCCI president Jagmohan Dlamiya for the betterment of Indian cricket. Now, that he has taken over the role of the BCCI president, he expects to establish similar mutual respect between him and Kohli.
"I'll speak to him tomorrow. He's the captain of India, he is the most important man in Indian cricket. We'll have a word with him and as I said we'll support him in every possible way," Ganguly said on Wednesday, reported Cricbuzz.
"When I was the captain and Jagmohan Dalmiya was the president, I don't remember a day when he said no to anything. Likewise, when Srinivasan was the president and Dhoni was the captain, you know how the relationship was good. Virat is the captain now and his relationship with me will be the same. Whatever he will require for the betterment of Indian cricket, he will get. He is a very big player... see his game in the last four to five years, he has taken Indian cricket to a different level. We are with him and we will remain with him. We will give him everything for his team to be the best."
The Indian team have been on a spree of their own, dominating the home like never before, and been a fighter away from home. While the team never seemed to lose their head when they were given difficult conditions to conquer, by winning the Border Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, they built a legacy of their own. Ganguly applauded Kohli for that.
"He wants to make this team the best in the world. It's been a great team to be honest with you, the way we have played cricket in the last three-four years. It's a fantastic side, yes, you can say they haven't won the World Cup but you don't win World Cups every time. We'll support him for whatever he wants and make sure that Indian cricket goes ahead smoothly."
"I don't know what transpired between CoA, Virat and Ravi . A new body and new office bearers have taken over, it will be a proper discussion and everything will be mutually discussed and taken forward. Be rest assured that we are here to make their life easier and not make their life difficult and everything will be on the basis of performance and performance is the most important thing and that's what will decide the future of Indian cricket.
"And as I said, Virat Kohli is the most important man in this entire context, we will be there to support him, we will listen to him because I have been a captain myself and understand from that position and we will deal with it. It will be mutual respect. Opinions will be there and we will do whatever is best for the game," Ganguly added.
