Anirudh Chaudhry has stated that if it was up to him, he would still have MS Dhoni in the playing XI for the national team before admitting that he has one of the finest minds in the game. He also recalled the former skipper’s tactics of moving players left and right to keep them on their foot.

MS Dhoni’s future has been hanging on the thinnest of thread, since the World Cup semi-final exit against New Zealand in the 2019 Cricket World Cup. While in his absence, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant have taken over his role behind the stumps for the national team. However, this has not prevented several people, including former BCCI secretary, Anirudh Chaudhry to talk about Dhoni’s future. The former secretary added that if the decision of selection was up to him, he would surely have the 39-year-old in the team.

"Dhoni is fit, he is the best wicketkeeper in India and one of the finest minds in the game. If I would be a decision-maker, I would have him in the team," he said during a Webinar arranged by Neerja Modi School on Zoom platform, reported TOI.

Chaudhry, who served as a manager to the Indian team in the 2011 tour to England, also revealed an incident in the game, where Dhoni would ask the player to move to the right or the left. He added that it helps the former skipper to get the player alert before every delivery so that chances do not go down. With IPL postponed, the 39-year-old’s return to the national team is a matter of how and not when.

"During a match you would see him asking a player to move to his right, and then to the left. The player would end up standing in the same place, but the idea is to make him alert. Before that his mind might have been wavering a bit," Chaudhry added.
