Reflecting on the celebration by Riyag Parag to Marcus Stonis’ catch, Mathew Hayden has advised that youngster that he shouldn’t tempt fate as it comes around. In the game against Lucknow Super Giants, Parag motioned as if he had taken the catch inches above the ground while celebrating the wicket.

Rajasthan Royals bettered their chances of making it to the playoffs with a win over Lucknow Super Giants on Sunday. The team won by 24 runs and jumped to second place in the points table and have an opportunity to finish the group stage in the top two. 41 runs from Yashasvi Jaiswal helped RR to post a total of 178/6 in the first innings.

Lucknow Super Giants lost wickets at regular intervals and ended up short of the target. However, during the innings an interesting incident took place. In the 19th over, Marcus Stoinis tried to hit a delivery from Obed McCoy towards deep mid-wicket but mistimed it. Riyan Parag seemed to have taken a brilliant catch while sprinting from long-on but the third umpire deemed that the ball bounced before the catch was taken by him.

Stonis attempted a big hit in the next over once again and Parag grabbed an easy catch this time. While celebrating the dismissal he motioned as if he has taken the catch just above the grass. Matthew Hayden was on-air at the time and he wasn’t pleased with the cheeky celebration from the youngster and said that he should not tempt fate ever.

“Got some advice for you young man, cricket is a very very long game, and we all have very long memories and you never ever tempt fate because it comes around quick enough,” Hayden said.

Parag has taken 13 catches so far in the tournament and has scored just 154 runs at 17.11 this season.
