The fast-paced T20 format demands the players to be on their toes throughout a contest. Chepauk Super Gillies’ Daryl Ferrario failed to abide by this method as J Suresh Kumar’s sharp presence of mind led to the batter’s downfall in the 2024 Tamil Nadu Premier League’s curtain raiser in Salem.

Fortune did not favor the defending champions during the toss as Chepauk Super Gillies sent the Lyca Kovai Kings to bat first at the SCF Cricket Ground on Friday. Despite early blows, B Sachin continued his good form from the last season and scored 63 runs to steer the Kings to 141/7 in 20 overs. In reply, the Super Gillies middle order made a meal out of a decent powerplay by throwing away wickets with Ferrario ending up as a victim of an unusual stumping.

Having conceded just five runs in his initial couple of overs, Jathaved Subramanium finally got what he deserved in the eleventh over. He came over the wicket and bowled a leg break well outside the stumps on a fuller length. The new batter, Ferrario leaned forward to reverse sweep but got completely beaten on the outside edge. Realising that his back foot might be around the crease he dragged it back before casually getting up and strolling off the crease in a matter of moments.

Meanwhile, the keeper Suresh Kumar did not grasp the ball neatly and tried to get a good grip when he witnessed the batter leaving the crease carelessly. Seeing a potential chance of a stumping, the gloveman whipped the bails in a jiffy while Ferrario was late to realise and make an attempt to get back home. Following a TV umpire replay, it was evident that the 26-year-old’s brainfade moment was the root cause of this bizarre stumping in the TNPL 2024 opener.

Ultimate brainfade moment!
