We often hold a special affection for certain things, and that connection can inspire us to give our very best. Haris Rauf and his love for Australia can be labelled as a similar connection with the Pakistani speedster silencing the Australian top order’s onslaught in the second T20I at the SCG.

Winning their second consecutive toss in the T20I series, Australia replicated the act to bat first just like the series opener. Jake Fraser-McGurk and Matt Short kicked off the innings on a high, whacking 21 runs off the first over against Shaheen Afridi. 27 runs came in the next couple of overs before Mohammad Rizwan, the Pakistani captain summoned Haris Rauf’s service and enforced the much-needed breakthroughs.

Having bowled three short balls in the first four deliveries of the over that included a wide, Rauf didn’t shift from his plans to ultimately get the price of the extravagant hard work. The fourth ball of the over was dished over the stumps, but interestingly, Fraser-McGurk made room and tried to execute a base-ball swot at it. In the process, he ended up mistiming off the top edge down the throat of Salman Ali Agha peddling back from extra cover. In a space of a delivery, he steamed in and bowled a back of a length delivery over the stumps that Josh Inglis tried to whip across but ended up closing the bat face late and incuir a leading edge towards the point fielder. With Inglis getting dismissed for a silver duck, right after Fraser-McGurk’s departure, the momentum shifted back to the visitors and the Twitterverse hailed Rauf for his hard work.
