The opening day of the Test match between New Zealand and Afghanistan at Greater Noida has been called off due to a wet outfield. Persistent rainfall overnight left the ground drenched and after multiple inspections, the match officials decided to call off the day's play before the toss.

‌Both teams arrived at Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Stadium in Greater Noida in the morning, only to find the ground tainted by wet patches and puddles. While New Zealand players were seen gathering near the pitch, the primary concern was the heavily affected square area.

The toss, originally scheduled for nine in the morning, was postponed and an early Lunch was called. Despite a lack of rain since the morning, the condition of the outfield remained a concern for the match officials. Poor drainage hampered efforts, with the groundsmen struggling to manage the situation as the super soppers worked tirelessly.

As the afternoon progressed and Tea was called, another inspection scheduled for 4:30 PM did not offer much hope for play kicking off anytime soon. Consequently, the first day of the one-off Test match between Afghanistan and New Zealand was abandoned. Although it was a bright and sunny day in Greater Noida, the outfield still required more time to dry. The match is now slated begin on Day 2 at 9:30 AM IST.
