In a team sport like cricket, it's a rare sight to watch a betrayal from one’s ally. Although non-deliberate, a similar case was spotted in the recent Caribbean Premier League clash between the Barbados Royals and the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons with a collision resulting in a disastrous run-out.

The decision to field first did not work out well inside the powerplay for the Barbados Royals as the Falcons' top three accumulated 144 runs to their tally of 176 in 20 overs. Chris Green got the better of Rahkeem Cornwall early in the defense but the pair of Quinton de Kock and Alick Athanaze seemed to take the game away from the Falcons. However, the 72-run second wicket stand concluded disastrously with the Proteas selling Athanaze down the river.

The fifth ball of the tenth over saw Shamar Springer come over the wicket and aim for a yorker wide outside the stumps. De Kock premeditated to shuffle across the line and attempt a ramp but ended up with an inside edge back to his pads. As the Proteas acknowledged the call of a single from the non-striker, the ball ricocheted off de Kock’s pads towards the close-up of backward point region. Sam Billings from behind the stumps took off his gloves while hurrying towards the ball when the two batters were seen entangled in a terrible collision. Taking advantage of the situation, Billings perfected a direct hit at the striker’s end with Athanaze miles away from home.

Although de Kock was seen as empathetic towards the young batter, the incident buzzed around in social media despite the Royals winning the encounter.
