The Delhi Capitals Women beat the UP Warriorz in a last-over thriller to reach the second spot in the points table. Kiran Navgire’s belligerent fifty was eclipsed by Annabel Sutherland’s all-round brilliance and Meg Lanning’s fifty to earn back-to-back wins in the Women’s Premier League.

Going by the trend of chasing first at the Kotambi Stadium, the Delhi Capitals captain, Meg Lanning opted to field first in the last game of this phase. However, her decision seemed to backfire, courtesy of Kiran Navgire’s belligerent knock, smacking the pacers to all parts of the ground. With 49 runs leaking in the initial four overs, Navgire brought up the team fifty with a clobbering hit down the ground against Shikha Pandey. This is when the ploy to bring Annabel Sutherland drew first blood as Vrinda Dinesh departed at the cusp of a 66-run powerplay. The all-rounder concluded Navgire’s 27-ball 51 knock in her next over followed by Tahlia McGrath and Deepti Sharma getting out stumped with UP reaching 83/4 in ten overs. Subsequently, Grace Harris and Shweta Sehrawat kept ticking the scoreboard before Arundhati Reddy’s leg-cutter got the better of the Aussie in the 15th over. 48 runs came in the next four overs with Chinelle Henry smoking 23 off the 17th over to propel the Warriorz to 166 runs.

Similar to their counterparts, the Capitals raced to a blistering start with Shafali Verma initiating the attacking approach followed by Meg Lanning adding some grace. The duo added 59 runs inside the powerplay before Deepti Sharma struck in the seventh over to outsmart Shafali. Jemimah Rodrigues followed suit in the next over before Annabel Sutherland assisted Lanning’s fifty in a 49-run third-wicket stand. Just when the duo seemed to steer the side to a win, Lanning’s (69) wicket in the 15th over brought the Warriorz in the game. The equation curtailed down to 32 off the last 18 balls before Sutherland and Marizanne Kapp pushed it down to 11 needed off the last over. Bit of sloppy fielding trimmed it down to two required off three balls, followed by a couple of singles sealing the win for the Capitals.
