New Zealand beat Bangladesh by five wickets in their second match of the 2025 Champions Trophy to secure a spot in the semi-finals. Rachin Ravindra’s century and Michael Bracewell’s four-for were the key highlights that knocked off Bangladesh and Pakistan from the coveted tournament.

Eyeing to solidify their semi-final spot with a win, Mitchell Santner’s decision to field first during the toss didn’t seem to work well as the Bangladesh openers aggregated 45 runs for the opening stand. But the ploy to bring Michael Bracewell early into the attack paid dividends as the all-rounder wreaked havoc from one end, unsettling the opposition batters with a spell of 10-1-26/4. Bangladesh found themselves at 118/5 in 26 overs when Jaker Ali assisted Shanto’s 77-run knock for 67 balls. Having surpassed the 150-run mark, Rishad Hossain’s 26-run blitz powered Bangladesh to 200 before the tail wagged along with Jaker’s 45 steering Bangladesh to 236/9 in 50 overs.

In reply, New Zealand incurred early jitters after losing Will Young and Kane Williamson to the Bangladeshi seamers. Being pushed to 15/2 halfway through the fourth over, Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra, the former Wellington Firebirds duo stabilised the stage, gathering 54 runs in the first powerplay before the 33-year-old was outsmarted by Mustafizur Rahman in the 16th over. Subsequently, Rachin played his natural game and scored a fifty with in-form Tom Latham at the other end. The pair went on to negate the opposition spinners and pacers during the middle-overs phase, converting their fifty-run stand to a century partnership with Ravindra getting to his fourth ICC ODI event ton. With the score 177/3 in 35 overs, the pair kept ticking the scorecard before Rishad Hossain struck in the 39th over. With 29 required off the last ten overs, Tom Latham was runout before Michael Bracewell and Glenn Phillips eased the chase with 23 balls remaining.
