CS vs HH | Bruce-Heapy partnership and Tickner's brilliance ensure Stags victory
Central Stags produced a huge upset in the Global Super League after defeating Hobart Hurricanes by 16 runs in game number seven. While Stags skipper Tom Bruce and Curtis Heapy set the tone with incredible knocks, Blair Tickner's beautiful display of death bowling ruined the Hurricanes’ hopes.

Central Stags, who won the toss and elected to bat, had one of the worst starts possible as they lost openers Will Young and Dane Cleaver within the powerplay. The Stags were in a spot of bother with the score at 37/2 with two new batters at the crease, and the situation seemed to have gotten worse as Dean Foxcroft was also dismissed shortly after by Usama Mir in the eighth over. However, the fortunes for the Super Smash winners started to turn when skipper Tom Bruce and Curtis Heaphy formed an important partnership in the middle to get their team out of trouble. The duo put on 113 off just 73 deliveries for the third wicket, with both individuals bringing up their half-centuries, and kept the runs flowing till the 19th over.
Though the last over by Odean Smith did manage to get the Hurricanes the wicket of the Stags skipper, Matthew Forde produced some big hits towards the end to get the team to a competitive total of 167/4 in 20 overs. While there were some economic spells from Usama Mir and Billy Stanlake, the Hurricanes had struggled to take wickets in the middle overs, giving away 113 runs in the last 10 overs despite having a great first half where they only conceded 54.
The start for Hobart Hurricanes, on the other hand, was not pleasant either. The BBL champions kept losing wickets at regular intervals and struggled to counter the Stags' spin trio of Ajaz Patel (2/18 in four overs), Jayden Lennox (1/18 in four overs), and Angus Shawe (1/33 in four overs), finding themselves in a tough position after 15 overs at 84/6 needing to score at a required rate of 16.80 in the last five overs. However, there was some hope created by Mohammad Nabi and Fabian Allen, who added 65 runs for the seventh wicket, bringing the equation down to 19 off the last over. Unfortunately, their efforts went in vain as Tickner kept his nerves and ended up conceding just two runs, which included a wicket of Nabi and affected the run-out of Mir, to ensure a 16-run win for his side.
Young and upcoming Central Districts middle-order batter Curtis Heaphy was awarded the player of the match for his unbeaten half-century of 38 deliveries.
