Shreyas Iyer has continued to showcase his strong performances in the IPL 2026. Leading Punjab Kings from the front, he has helped the team to top the table and even reach the finals last time.

A captain who has been the best performer in the IPL lately, Shreyas Iyer, continues to dominate in the tournament. Whether it is with the bat or with his captaincy, his performances have helped Punjab Kings to become one of the finest teams in the tournament lately.

Not only he has done well with Punjab Kings as a captain. He is the only skipper to lead three different teams to IPL finals, which includes Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Punjab Kings. Even now, Punjab Kings have topped the table under his captaincy, coming as a massive achievement for him.

Looking at his consistency, the Indian selectors have noticed him yet again. He is reportedly in plans to be a part of the Indian team at number four. Moreover, the selectors have also looked at Iyer as a future captain, once the team decides to move on from Suryakumar Yadav.

Our Take

Shreyas Iyer as a future captain comes as a bright choice by the Indian selectors. While Suryakumar Yadav has helped India to win Asia Cup and T20 World Cup, he is coming closer to his retirement. At this time, Shreyas Iyer has stepped up with his ability to lead a team from the front. He has also been able to score runs consistently for Punjab Kings, and has been doing well for India also in the ODI format.
