Mumbai Indians are now eager to win their sixth IPL title in 2026. The team has not won even a single edition since 2020, making it more than half a decade without winning the finals. Just before the new edition, the players have started to show impressive performances with the bat.

1. WI vs SA Bring MI Dominance

The T20I series between the West Indies and South Africa has brought down the batting dominance of Mumbai Indians. Taking a look at the series, it is clear that MI is having a strong batting line-up for the next season. Whether it is Quinton de Kock or Sherfane Rutherford, all of them have been able to do well in the shortest format of the game.

Sherfane Rutherford

Sherfane Rutherford was able to dominate against the Proteas bowlers as the West Indies batted first. The team went on to score 221 runs in 20 overs, out of which Rutherford gave a finishing touch. He was able to score 57 runs off just 24 balls with 5 fours and 4 sixes, which helped the team to post a competitive total.

Rutherford played a vital role for Gujarat Titans in the last edition, as he scored 291 runs in 11 innings at a strike rate of 157.29. But it was not enough to help him remain in the same team for the next season. Before the auction, he was traded from Gujarat to Mumbai for a whopping total of 2.60 crore.

Quinton de Kock

Quinton de Kock is being termed as one of the steal deals for Mumbai Indians. The team was able to get him in the auction for just 1 crore, and it now comes to be a worthy deal. He has already gained a lot of experience in the IPL, and brings in an opening batter and wicket-keeper to the team.

In the recent match against the West Indies, he went on to score a century in the massive chase. This helped the South African team to secure a win over West Indies with several bowls remaining. With his striking ability, de Kock has sent some positive signs to the Mumbai Indians fans.

Ryan Rickelton

Rickelton played for MI as an opening batter in the last season. He scored 3 half-centuries in 14 matches and also maintained a strike rate above 150. Despite this form, there remained questions whether Mumbai will be going on with Rickelton as a top order batsman in the next edition or not.

But his recent form has proven otherwise. In the match against the West Indies, he scored 77 runs off 36 balls in the massive chase to help his team finish the game. Watching him at his best again, shows that there are no signs of worry for Mumbai Indians in the upcoming edition.

2. IND vs NZ Help MI Players Regain Form

It is not just the series between the West Indies and South Africa which has helped the MI players to get back to their best. Some of them have also been able to do well in the T20I series between India and New Zealand.

Suryakumar Yadav

While he is not an overseas player, Suryakumar Yadav was unable to notch runs off his bat in the international games. But as the year changed, it also seems that the Indian captain has found his form back.

He started off by smashing unbeaten knocks in the second and third T20I. While he was not able to bring up runs in the fourth T20I, getting out for just 8, he still remains the highest run scorer in the series. Along with that, it should be noted that Surya was MI’s top run scorer in the IPL 2025.

Mitchell Santner

Santner ended up being retained by Mumbai Indians for 2 crore rupees. And this now comes worth the price, as he has been doing well with both bat and ball. Moreover, he is also gaining experience as a captain, leading the Kiwis side in the T20I series against India.

While he comes as a middle order batsman, Santner has still managed to score 105 runs in the series. Even in the 4th T20I, he was able to take 3 wickets for the team, playing a crucial role for them to grab the win.
