Twitter Divided as Joe Root Edges Closer to Tendulkars Test Record

Joe Root is coming close to the record of Sachin Tendulkar in Test cricket. Sachin holds the record of most runs in the Test format, while Root has now stepped up to the second spot. Standing close to 14,000 runs, he aims to be the highest run-scorer in Tests.

Joe Root has been aging like a fine wine, as he leads England in the second Test against New Zealand. Even in this test, he had the chance to reach the 14,000 runs mark in the Test format, being the fastest to do so. He still has many innings left to claim this record, being faster than Sachin Tendulkar himself.

Root was dismissed at the score of 46 in England's first innings in the second Test. This made him fall just 2 runs short from achieving the 14,000 runs mark in the longest format of the game. While two of the Fab Four players have retired from the game, Root still continues to dominate the longest format at his best.

And since he is reaching closer to 14,000 Test runs, the record of Sachin Tendulkar is now under threat. Tendulkar has scored 15,921 runs in his Test career, as Root has a chance to overtake his record in this format.

Here's how Twitter has reacted to Root coming closer to Sachin's record.

God Always

A Twitter user made the best comparison to show how Sachin Tendulkar is better than the current players. Combining Virat Kohli in ODIs and Joe Root in Tests would make a player like Sachin.

Calculation at its Peak

One fan has said that Joe Root must score 21,000 Test runs to actually break Sachin's record. And this margin will be due to the fact that both of them have played in different eras.

Time for Magic

Sachin Tendulkar might not be happy, watching his Test record being broken by a non Indian player. A Twitter user said that Sachin must have done black magic due to which Root fell 2 runs short of achieving the 14,000 Test runs mark.
