Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has been known to bring out the best in players and it seems that he has unearthed another gem in Rodri. The Spaniard arrives as Fernandinho’s heir and Kevin De Bruyne has nothing but great things to say about the man who arrived from Atletico Madrid.

Manchester City paid a club record £62.6million to Atletico Madrid for Rodri, but that move already looks to be a bargain. The former Villarreal midfielder has already passed his first test on English soil with flying colours, starting the Community Shield against Liverpool. The 23-year-old showed his class and finished the game with the highest passing accuracy, and looked composed with the ball.

He was also defensively solid in the second half which was when Liverpool kept attacking relentlessly. “He did really well,” de Bruyne said after the match.

“He's a perfect fit for us. I think the way that we did transfers in the last years adds up. I think he's the perfect defensive midfielder for the way we want to play. Our defensive midfielder is a really difficult position. You need certain players for it and there's not a lot of people who can do both sides of it, “ De Bruyne concluded.
