Reports | Atletico Madrid in talks over a move for Christian Eriksen
Atletico Madrid have held talks about Christian Eriksen with Tottenhham Hotspur. Reports suggest that the Dane is willing to leave the North London this summer for a club outside England. Manchester United have walked away from the midfielder, after he made his wish of playing in Spain known.
Apparently, the clubs have had a discussion over the Danish International while completing the deal regarding the transfer of English full-back Kieran Trippier. Spanish media expects Atletico to swoop in for the creative midfielder after the transfer window closes on Thursday, at 5 pm BST. Such a move will force Spurs to let Eriksen go at a lower price tag, especially with the Spanish transfer window is open till the beginning of September and the Los Rojiblancos are being patient.
The La Liga side are also planning a move for Colombian International James Rodriguez. While Tottenham, on the other hand, are on the verge of signing Giovani Lo Celso, which will effectively mean that the club is preparing for Eriksen’s exit. The Danish playmaker has been an integral part of Mauricio Pochettino's squad and helped them reach the Champions League final last season.
This season, the 27-year-old has made it clear that he will be willing to listen to offers, primarily from Spain. Real Madrid have been long term admirers of the player, but consider Paul Pogba or Donny van de Beek as priorities this season. Eriksen has only one more year left on his contract and is not going to extend his stay, which means if Tottenham fail to sell him this summer, they will have to let him go for free next year.
