Adrian will fill Alisson’s shoes well, reveals Jurgen Klopp
Liverpool's opening Premier League win came with some bad news, as it saw Alisson leave the game after suffering a calf injury. This will see him sidelined for the next few weeks, with Adrián, the only major signing, set to replace the Brazilian in goal, and many hopes he has a similar impact.
Liverpool beat Chelsea in European Super Cup, after a fantastic match, which eventually ended up going all the way to penalties. The chances of winning were very small for the Blues, but with Alisson out injured, it could have been their day. But that simply wasn’t to be with replacement Adrian shining both in the game and during the penalty shoot-out.
Before the game, however, Jurgen Klopp had a lot to say about his new goalkeeper, even revealing that his experience would be the difference-maker. The Spaniard has played for the likes of West Ham and Real Betis over the course of his career, making well over 180 appearances.
"We don’t have to talk too much about it, that’s what the experience is for. He looked very good and very sharp from the first session he had with us but of course, now we need to be careful pack him in cotton wool, pretty much. We cannot now do the hardest training with him every day. We have to make him match fit every day, that’s how it is. So that’s what we try and then he will be fine," assumed Klopp.
Most of the attention was on Alisson's replacement, and how well, he protected Liverpool's net, which the 32-year-old did surprisingly well. This win could be just the boost that the Spanish goalkeeper needs, as he will have to fill a Golden Glove winner’s shoes for a few weeks.
