Report | Manchester United star Marcos Rojo considers leaving Old Trafford
Manchester United star Marcos Rojo is considering his future with the Argentine finding it tough to break into the first team. The Red Devils have six center-backs on their books, and that doesn’t include the potential arrival of Harry Maguire this summer, which has caused a few issues for Rojo.
While Marcos Rojo has impressed during Manchester United’s pre-season friendlies, the Argentine defender could be on his way out. ESPN has reported that Rojo is considering a move away despite impressing manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in pre-season. The new Red Devils’ boss has a total of 6 central defenders in Victor Lindelof, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Eric Bailly, Axel Tuanzebe and Rojo himself.
That doesn’t include a potential addition in Harry Maguire, which would make competition for the two first-team center-back roles very very high. This would further see a few stars struggling to find first-team minutes, which is Rojo’s main concern.
The 29-year-old does have 3-years left on his current deal with Manchester United and the possibility of not being a sure-fire starter is a key factor that may lead the Argentine to consider his future. He joined Manchester United in 2014 from Sporting Lisbon and within his first three seasons, the Argentine made a total of 95 appearances.
A series of injuries and other factors since then has seen him feature in only 14 Premier League games since the start of the 2017-18 season. Now while Rojo was included in the 26 man squad that travelled to Oslo ahead of a friendly against Kristiansund, his future at Manchester United remains uncertain until the transfer window closes. However, the Argentine does have suitors, with clubs from Italy, France and Spain all keen on a potential move, ESPN reports.
