Juan Mata believes that Manchester United striker Anthony Martial still has an incredible career ahead of him despite the Frenchman’s struggles over the last few years. The 23-year-old signed for the club as a teenager but has struggled to make an impact scoring just 36 goals in 116 appearances.

The Frenchman arrived in the summer of 2015 for a fee of around £36 million-plus add-ons which made him the then most expensive teenager in the world. It was a record that stood for a few years before Bayern Munich broke it buying Renato Sanches and then PSG broke it bringing in Kylian Mbappe. Martial also won the Golden Boy in the same year but his career since then hasn’t exactly gone according to plan. Instead, the Frenchman has netted just 36 goals in 116 league games for Manchester United, had to watch as he was benched consistently by Jose Mourinho and has seen injuries ravage his career.

Things haven’t been all that bad for the forward recently and under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the Frenchman has found a way back into the fray. Not only that, this season he was handed the number 9 by the club and started off well. While injuries have seen Marcus Rashford play more centrally replace the Frenchman, Martial, for all his criticism since the move, has done relatively well this season. It has seen Juan Mata claim that the 23-year-old will have a great career and the Spaniard believes that Martial is still a great talent.

"I hope it's really big. He is an incredibly talented player. You can see that since the moment he arrived to the club in his first game against Liverpool. In every training session, the way he treats the ball, the way he takes on people, the way he can win a game by himself. I love this kind of player with such big talent and I love to play with them. He is a very, very good player. He is still young and hopefully he has an incredible career ahead of him,” said Mata reports Sky Sports.
