No options where Joao Felix leaves Atletico Madrid, asserts Enrique Cerezo
Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has ruled out any chance that Joao Felix is leaving the club this summer despite the forward struggling to make an impact for the La Liga side. The Portuguese international has done relatively well since signing for Atleti but hasn’t hit his full potential.
With Antoine Griezmann leaving, few expected Atletico Madrid to go out and spend all their money on one single player but that’s exactly what the club did. In a sensational move, the Los Rojiblancos spent €126 million on Joao Felix which meant that the forward’s first season was spent under the burden of an immense price tag. That more than anything affected Felix’s performances with the froward netting just nine goals across all competitions.
However, the Portuguese youngster has stepped things up this term with ten goals across all competitions while contributing to six assists. Yet, he hasn’t hit the heights that his potential and ability show he is capable of, which has seen reports indicate that Atletico Madrid were looking to cut their losses. That is not the case however, as Enrique Cerezo has revealed that there is no option that Felix leaves with him backing the 21-year-old to adapt and thrive for the club.
"There are no options, none whatsoever that he leaves. He has to adapt and possibility the day that he makes that leap, he will become of the most important players in the planet. Players are not machines; they have good and bad days," Cerezo said, reported ESPN.
